2013 Impala. 69k miles. Salvage Title. 9/10 condition. $6,800. Lotta miles for that year, but clean throughout. Probably some kind of fleet car in its former life. Saved about 3 grand. Maybe a bit more.
This was the pre-salvage condition.

My dad had two of those as company cars and put ~100,000 miles on between the two of them. Very boring cars, but super solid.

Yup. Impala through and through. That high-feature V6 is very strong. And it has a compass and a thermometer and ... drumroll please! ... BlueTooth! I love that feature.
I can’t afford exciting.

Does it have a front bench seat?
I’d totally rock a that-gen Impala SS with a front bench seat!

It does not. My ‘05 did and I prefer it. My understanding is that the front bench seat is an option and it doesn’t look like many folks opted for it.

I needed a car. I’ve always been a Chevy man. The Impalas don’t keep their resale value _at all_. Makes ‘em affordable. I don’t buy cars with reselling them in mind. I drive ‘em until they croak.

Yup. Remarkably strong and torquey for a boring-ass couch of a car. Personally, I think it’s fine basic, comfortable transportation and hopefully dependable.

We had a basic LS as a rental a couple of years ago and despite its interior it was just fine. The 3.6 was quite fun.

I’m jealous because you have a car you want to drive.
Anyway I’m a little confused by what was considered “salvage” with the car. It was sideswipped without any frame damage, but totaled out by insurance anyway, then fixed by someone else?

I’m guessing the odometer reading contributed to the insurance company’s decision to salvage. And you called it: I really
do
want to drive it. I just hope it proves dependable.
The car was purchased at auction by a guy who flips them for a living. Seems like a good guy and he was happy to provide me with the “before” pictures, which did much to instill confidence. I think the price is low enough and it’s enough car, and considering everything else, to roll the dice.

oh, a discrepancy with the odo. odd for a car of that age.

No, I’m just guessing that the insurance company decided the car had too many miles to make it worth repairing.

You have no warranties still in place due to the branded title which was done on 8-01-2015. It went into service as an Enterprice rental car back on 12-06-2012 . All recalls have been closed but if new ones come up they would still be covered , its the the warranties that the salvage title voids.. Had both front wheel bearings done at about 64k and 65k last January then the ignition key rotation recall where the big single hole key cover was installed.

When you say recalls have been “closed,” does that mean they’ve been addressed? I had no idea that the salvage title would void warranties. Live and learn on that one, but I didn’t really expect any warranties to be in place anyhow, though I heard something about warranty being extended on the VVT system.

Yes, closed means the repair or whatever has been done. You might be out of luck on the VVT extension because of the branded title but if its gone this long with no issue that change to synthetic oil will be hopefully be your ace in the hole.

Do you know what the terms are for the VVT warranty extension? Is it a wives’ tale that rental companies take good care of their cars?

Enterprise is a bit better than most. From what I’ve seen Hertz is likely the worst and they don’t even care if you complain when your rental dies. I think the VVT extension was until 120k. After Enterprise owned it I now see there was a GM warranty contract instated on 3-31-2014 so someone bought it second hand and were likely the owner up until the accident. There was no dealership warrantied services other than the bearings and recall. Its probably had regular oil changs by Enterprise, dealer or independent shops but not something reported to GM.
